We are days away from the month of May. This is a legendary month if you happen to have school-aged kids.  Whether referred to as the 100 Days of May, Maycember, or Mayhem, this fifth month of the year is filled to the brim with “stuff and things”, topped off with a thick layer of “all the feels”.

In the world of real estate, it is often when sellers scramble to get their homes on the market before listing season ends, and buyers start to revel in choice, while requesting the “moon and the stars” from sellers. If any of this resonates this, you might think that this month will surely be the death of you. Or maybe that is just me. The bottom line is it can feel like being in a spin cycle, all the time.

And yet, there is truly so much to be grateful for. Celebrations, graduations, and end of year performances are invitations to slow down, take it all in and create meaningful memories with friends and family.  It is a time to gather with your community to mark milestones and rejoice in the very things that only we as human beings can experience.

In my own life, this year marks the end of truly raising our babies together with my husband.  A journey of 21+ years is rounding an important bend, and it matters how we show up in it.  Culturally, I am familiar with school holidays that stretch deliciously, and religious and cultural celebrations that are marked by pausing everyday life for several days or even a week! In American culture, I find this pause absent or worse, rushed. 

What would it feel like if we responded differently? How would our loved ones appreciate our engagement in these life events if we were truly present, holding space for the richness of these moments to really bake into life? Since nothing is promised, I believe that lingering longer to enjoy these moments is everything.
